Welcome to SAE
SAE is a modern, state-of-the-art energy recovery plant in Sarpsborg, Norway. The plant processes mainly household waste into energy in the form of environmentally friendly industrial steam which is supplied to Borregaard, one of the world's leading bio-refiners.
The facility has an installed capacity of 33 MW, with two production lines and gross production of 255 GWh. The feedstock is 80,000 tons of waste per year of household and commercial waste, and the plant has permission to incinerate 8,000 tons of hazardous waste per year.
Technically speaking, the waste-to-energy plant is based on a modern gasification technology recently developed which minimizes carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere. The technology has proven to be successful in eight operating plants around Europe. The SAE plant has efficiently been in operation for five years.
